After you convert: load it with WorldEdit or an older editor
Put the file in WorldEdit's schematics folder.
On a server, plugins/WorldEdit/schematics, or plugins/FastAsyncWorldEdit/schematics for FAWE. In single player with the mod, config/worldedit/schematics.
Load and paste it.

Or open it in an older tool.
MCEdit and Schematica, for Minecraft 1.12 and older, open .schematic files as they are.
What each format can store
| Data | .nbt | .schematic | Result |

| Entities | Yes | Yes | Kept |
| Biomes | No | No | In neither |
| Multiple regions | No | No | In neither |
| Scheduled ticks | No | No | In neither |

- This is a pre-1.13 format. Modern block states are mapped down to numeric IDs plus data values, and states with no legacy equivalent cannot be represented.
- Blocks added after 1.12 have no numeric ID and will not survive the round trip.
Common questions
- How do I convert a .nbt to a .schematic?
- Drop the .nbt on this page, pick the Java release you play on, 1.7.10, 1.8.9, 1.9.4, 1.10.2, 1.11.2 or 1.12.2, and download the .schematic for MCEdit.
- Does it keep chests and entities?
- Yes. Chest contents, sign text and other block entities carry over, and so do mobs, item frames and armor stands.
- What does it drop?
- Modern block states are mapped down to legacy IDs where an equivalent exists.
- Is it free, and do I need an account?
- Yes. Converting is free and needs no account. Your file isn't stored.
- Can I use the result on Bedrock?
- For Bedrock, convert the same file to a Bedrock structure instead: Convert .nbt to .mcstructure
- My file is from a newer release. Will it load in an older one?
- Pick the release you play on. A .schematic stores legacy block IDs, so a block that release has is written for it and a block it does not have is replaced with the closest one or listed in the report.
