We record formats, blocks and versions, never your file.

After you convert: load it with a structure block or Create

  1. For a structure block, put it in your world.

    /place template minecraft:castle

Use the world's generated/minecraft/structures folder. Place it with the command, or with a structure block in Load mode named minecraft:castle.

  2. For Create, put it in your schematics folder.

That is .minecraft/schematics. Pick it at a Schematic Table, then print it with a Schematicannon.

What each format can store

Data .json .nbt Result
Block states Yes Yes Kept
Block entities No Yes Not in source
Entities No Yes Not in source
Biomes No No In neither
Multiple regions No No In neither
Scheduled ticks No No In neither
Paste origin Yes No Dropped
  • The vanilla structure format is read by structure blocks and the Create mod.
  • Structure blocks impose a 48 block limit per axis in vanilla; larger builds load in third-party tools but not through a structure block.

Common questions

How do I convert a .json to a .nbt?
Drop the .json on this page, pick Structure block or Create and the release you play on, and download the .nbt.
Can I use it with the Create mod?
Yes. Create loads a schematic only at the Minecraft version it was written for. We write the .nbt at the version you pick, so pick the one your modpack runs: 1.14.4, 1.15.2, 1.16.5, 1.18, 1.18.1, 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.20.1 or 1.21.1.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes. Converting is free and needs no account. Your file isn't stored.
Can I use the result on Bedrock?
For Bedrock, convert the same file to a Bedrock structure instead: Convert .json to .mcstructure

Same file, another target

Into .nbt from another format
